Runs needed per ball calculator
How many runs per ball does a chasing side need? Enter runs needed and balls left.
Formula
Runs per ball = runs needed รท balls left. Multiply by 6 for runs per over.
Worked examples
- 36 needed off 24 balls = 1.5 runs per ball (9 an over).
- 10 needed off 6 balls = 1.67 per ball.
- 100 needed off 60 balls = 1.67 per ball (10 an over).
How it works
Late in a T20 chase, commentators often talk in runs per ball rather than per over. More than two runs a ball means boundaries are needed almost every delivery.
Frequently asked questions
